Ben Salter is an Australian songwriter and performer, based in the southern state of Tasmania. He has toured Australia and the world for nearly 20 years, both solo and as a member of The Wilson Pickers, The Gin Club, Giants of Science and Hownowmer. Ben returns to the UK and Europe in the summer of 2018 in support of his most recent album Back Yourself.
Ben’s performances highlight his storytelling, humour and sincerity, while his recordings experiment with a variety of styles from acoustic ballads to indie rock, to avant garde soundscapes and instrumentals. His distinctive, emotive voice is regularly cited as the one of the best in Australia. He has toured with artists including Cat Power, Iron & Wine, Built To Spill and many more.
Salter has collaborated with many of Australia and New Zealand’s most well-known artists, and he is regularly cited as one of the finest Australian performers and songwriters of his generation. His unique outlook and inimitable musical style is in the tradition of songwriters such as John Cale, Robert Wyatt and David Byrne, and he draws inspiration from the likes of The Velvet Underground, Roy Orbison, The Ink Spots and Low.
Salter’s 2018 summer tour of the UK and Europe commences with shows in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bath, Nottingham, Worthing, Paris, Lannion and Binic.
