Brixton Pays Tribute To Bowie
The life of David Bowie, labelled by many as one of the most influential musicians of his era, was celebrated by hundreds of fans last night (11/01/16) in his hometown of Brixton. Wasting no time at all, using Facebook and other forms of social media, and event was quickly hatched for the streets of Brixton, wreathed in spontaneity and community.
A large crowd was amassed outside the Ritzy Cinema in the centre of Brixton to remember, pay respects, and celebrate the life of their ‘Brixton Boy’. Pockets of activity riddled the crowd, with acoustic guitar sing-alongs popping up from place to place, along with speakers hoisted on shoulders sounding hit after hit. Perhaps one of the unique elements of this celebration was the range of generations and age groups present, dancing and singing together. From teenagers to pensioners, the songs of David Bowie bridged any age divisions, with all taking joy in the music.
Face glitter a plenty, this impulsive gathering was a fitting celebration of a man who advocated the love of life, with never a boring moment in sight.
