Emma Scarr
London
Emma Scarr is a singer songwriter who lives in Leytonstone, East London. She has been active on the live London scene for over two decades. A proficient player of the guitar, fiddle and banjo, in recent years she has concentrated on song craft.
Her often very personal songs celebrate the struggles and delights of impossible relationships, the London Underground, drinking, getting older, friendship, children and grandparents, and the colourful characters encountered around this shabby but wonderful town. There is also an ever-present suggestion of the romantic, deluded longing for those far away open spaces, dusty roads and cowboys of the old films and songs.
They are nonetheless thoroughly contemporary folk songs, peculiarly English, but drizzled with the influences of Americana, Country and Celtic Folk Music. Artists that have inspired her include – Mary Gauthier, Guy Clark, Gillian Welch and Steve Earle.
