Faith i Branko
Branko is self-taught and was given his first violin by his grandfather - a great Romani singer. He had a difficult childhood and was brought up by his aunt and grandmother; his violin was a way out of the extreme problems that he lived through and he created his own music, combining sounds of jazz and classical music with his Roma traditions. Faith trained as a classical pianist and studied music at the School of Oriental and African Studies; she toured with circuses; cycled across China; with bands around Australia; became an industrial carpenter…until she met the man who would finally make her stand still in one place.
They met in 2009 in the small Romani village of Grabovica whilst Faith was searching for a violinist for renowned ‘Giffords Circus’. They communicated through music alone - not having a shared language - and composed and combined their feelings through sound. Faith returned to her life for two years before being unexplainably drawn to return to his village. Their mutual respect soon turned into love and 10 months later they were married and dreaming of their musical future together.
