Falkirk Folk Club

http://www.falkirkfolkclub.co.uk

Falkirk Folk Club is well over 50 years old and has had many venues over the half century. The Bicycle Shed, The Star Inn, The Temperence Cafe, The Burns Bar, The Polmontbank Hotel, The Wallace Tavern, The Craiglee Inn, The Drookit Duck, The Polish Club, Argyll´s and now hosts events in the historic, and the town´s oldest public house, The Tolbooth Tavern, beside the High Street´s steeple landmark.

The Club has seen many great acts through it´s many doors. Famous names who have lined up at Falkirk include Barbara Dickson, Billy Connolly and Rab Noakes, Hamish Henderson, Archie and Jean Fisher,Tom Paxton, The Dubliners and many more.

As well as established performers from the wide spectrum of the folk and traditional music scene, the club provides a platform for new and emerging talent maintaining a strong commitment to encouraging local participation and has aided the development of many fine musicians and songwriters from the area who ´cut their teeth´ on the club stage and at session nights which feature regularly in the events calendar.

The Club blossomed in the 60s and 70s with a large youthful following on the back of the ´folk revival´ of that period. However, times changed and and during the early 90s the Club nearly folded, but thanks to the sterling work of Elma Harkness, then the "Broons", the Andersons, Robert McElroy and now the present committee and members, the Club enjoys a new lease of life.

The membership and supporters continue to work hard to develop and promote folk and traditional music throughout the Falkirk area and host regular Sessions, Open Stage and Special Events providing opportunities for budding musicians and songwriters to air their talents, gain performance experience and essentially enjoy participation in the music.

The Club has a friendly, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere making for a good night out and strives to provide great quality from across the broad spectrum of folk music and on occasion, should the visiting act perhaps fail to captivate you, then hopefully the floor spots, heckling and the banter will always make up for it!

Come along if you are interested in music . Come on your own or bring a friend or two and sample the great music and intimate atmosphere in the upstairs room of The Tolbooth Tavern.

Meet the artists, chat with musicians, enjoy a refreshment, tea, coffee or something stronger and take part in our raffle where you might just win the infamous "pook in the pooch".
