Guide to London Remixed Festival!

Guide to London Remixed Festival!

Heading to the fantastic London Remixed Festival next week? We at Folk and Honey thought we’d give you a little guide to Continentals Drift’s unique festival in preparation!

London Remixed Festival takes place over two days, 5-6th February, in a single venue, Richmix in Shoreditch. Although the festival takes place in a single venue, it houses 4 stages on the Saturday!

So, what’s on?

Friday night is the smaller of the two, sporting a single stage curated by Continental Drifts. Titled Vintage Remix, the stage is to be headlined by Symphonica ft .MR Switch, the collaboration of 4 x World DMC Champion DJ Mr Switch, alongside composer Miles Hancock and a 20-piece orchestra! The performance fuses together two different worlds: the raw power & soul of the orchestra, and the heavy bass & beats of the DJ. The possibilities are endless

Alongside Symphonica ft .MR Switch is Cornish Retro Breaks band/producer Daytoner. Daytoner habitually mines the rich seams of audio from charity shop vinyl and various sound sources in search of the perfect sunshine samples from yesteryear.

Both are backed up by the presence of DJ Chris Tofu.

Line Up – Friday 5th February, Vintage Remix Stage. (7pm-1am)

Onto the big day, Saturday 6th February (7pm-4am).

Saturday hosts 4 stages: Tropicarnival, Polka Club, Folk Ghetto, and The Silent Disco Café.

Tropicarnival

The Tropicarnival stage (curated by Wormfood + Movimientos + Vibes & Pressure) is headlined by Nubiyan Twist’s DJ set. Spanning Afro Beat, Dub, and Jazz, Nubiyan Twist fuse groove driven music from around the world with sound system culture and jazz inspired improvisation.

Nubiyan Twist are joined at Tropicarnival by northern based Afro-Fusion band K.O.G & The Zongo Brigade, bringing incredible west African rhythms and then some. They promise an experience you´ll never forget.

Secret guests (or not so secret) to this stage include Native Sun and Balso Verdu & Tonto Malembe.

 Polka Club

Polka Club (curated by Continental Drifts and Arts Canteen) will be headlined by electro-mijwez, shamstep, choubi band 47Soul. Playing electronic Palestinian street music, 47SOUL writes and performs to speak about freedom of movement, whether that’s sparking new dance styles or singing about breaking down border check points.

8 Piece Brass section Temple Funk Collective also take the stage, with their New Orleans style 8-piece brass riot, taking their lead from the Louisiana legends and adding gypsy, jungle and hip hop.

Polka Club will also play host to Gypsy Butter, Djanan Turan, and Dat Brass!

Folk Ghetto

One more live stage to go, Folk Ghetto (curated by Two For Joy + Woodburner)

Headlining Folk Ghetto are Folk-Hop group Honeyfeet, bringing their songs about eating people, dancing on graves, and infidelity with them. Manchester’s ethio-trad, folk-hop & barrelhouse-pop exponents have the skill, charm and (frankly) tunes to pull it all together into a joyful, foot-banging sound.

Alongside Honeyfeet are the ‘Anarchic Hillbilly Barn Dancing Squad’ of Cut a Shine, London based Hoe down band determined to spread the word that the Hoe Down is a’happening.

Also, skilled lyricist and multi-instrumentalist Theo Bard will be performing at Folk Ghetto, celebrating love, friendships and good times, and the thrills and spills of busking in London’s markets.

Forest of Fools and DJ Joey Fingers will also take the Folk Ghetto stage on Saturday.
