Hickory Signals are multi-instrumentalists Laura Ward and Adam Ronchetti. Combining Laura Ward´s crystal clear, formidable folk voice with guitar, shruti, flute, glockenspiel and a variety of percussion, the band´s set combines re-interpretations of traditional folk songs with original, self-penned material. Layer ing sounds sensitively and minimally to atmospheric effect, their music has been described as haunting, cinematic, un-rushed and detailed.

Ken Brown of FATEA Magazine said of Hickory Signals “Like stepping back into a bygone age, both in terms of musicality and atmosphere…. Laura Ward does indeed have a lovely voice… almost a slightly more melodious Maddy Prior…”

“The songs float from past to present to past seamlessly, with shades of Sandy Denny and a beauty crucial to the trad folk movement back then” – Frank Gutch Jr., No Depression

“Ward has one of the most pure, charming and elegant voices on the circuit today…” – Joe Knipe, Artree Folk and Roots Magazine

“Laura Ward’s vocals elevate [Hickory Signals] nto a rarefied atmosphere…” Samuel Valdéz López, Now Then Magazine

“Hickory Signals is a band keyed in to the wistful passing of time and the melancholic awe of the natural world” – Jon Doyle, Wake the Deaf

“A haunting female vocal, and a beautiful picked guitar....Ward’s voice has a clarity which grabs your attention, particularly in the upper register, and it is this which gives interest to this recording…. Hickory Signals are certainly a duo to watch for the future.” – Will Wilkins, Bright Young Folk
