Raised in the harsh yet surreally beautiful north-eastern corner of the high Tibetan Plateau, Ngawang Lodup learnt his unique repertoire of mountain songs from an early age, listening to his mother as they herded yak and sheep. After musical instruction from his brothers and a few years in a monastery, Ngawang has gone on to become a player of the electric mandolin and dramnyen lute and highly regarded folk singer, well known for his traditional Tibetan nomadic ballads and contemporary folk songs.

Ngawang has been living in the UK in 2004 and has been performing across Europe and the UK. Ngawang’s music has been broadcast on Radio 3 as part of the BBC’s “Introducing” programme and has played a session on World On Three. He has played at WOMAD and has also featured in the pages of the Telegraph, Radio Times and Songlines Magazine. In 2015 he performed in the O2 Arena, for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and a crowd of thousands of people from all over the world. There he sang an a capella mountain song called “The Dragon” followed by His own composition entitled “Welcome Song of Swirling Auspciousness”.
