Ophelia was born one January morning on Highway 30 by the Gulf of Mexico. We had just finished a US tour promoting our respective solo projects, when we decided it was time to bring our music together.
Samuel has been involved in the UK music scene for 15 years, first with his bands Dead Like Harry and Taylor & Marie. Then more recently with his solo releases including the ‘Tales From A Troubadour’ EP series which took place throughout 2015, where he travelled around the world recording a series of EP’s from different towns and cities.
Rebecca is a bit greener to the music scene, having begun her career as an actress in shows such as Game of Thrones, The Royals, and as the lead in the multi award winning horror short The Prey. Her debut EP, The Bedroom Sessions, was released in September 2015. It received airplay from BBC Radio and quickly sold out of physical copies.
Together we’ve performed around the UK with artists such as Nerina Pallot and Michael Malarkey. We decided we wanted to make Ophelia a bit different to our usual acoustic singer songwriter sound and use this project as an opportunity to collaborate with some of our favourite musicians.
We spent the month of June recording our album at Tesla Studios in Sheffield. We were lucky enough to work with some really talented people on this project.
Grammy nominated Eamon McLoughlin, added some fiddle to our first single from his studio in Nashville.
David Glover, who co-produced the album, has opened for a number of acts including Richard Ashcroft and Bob Dylan. He also happens to be a fantastic producer who´s past clients include Slow Club and Pete Williams.
We also had the amazing Greg Haver fly all the way over from New Zealand to help us with the album. Greg has worked on a lot of stuff for the popular Welsh band Manic Street Preachers and has also produced multiple Top 40 singles for various artists. He also happens to be a world class drummer and we were so fortunate to have him add his drum wizardry to the album.
