RHAIN is not of this Earth; her intimate outpourings bringing a certain other-worldly aspect that will pluck you from your every day and welcome you into an immeasurable landscape. Dynamics are her play-thing, with song structures flying out the window and a voice that precedes her young years – speaking truths with an ever-original bite. She looks at the world differently, inviting your ears to go along on a journey of retrospective learnings.
Based in Bristol, she has quietly been bubbling under the surface, her live sets gaining a kind of cult status that sees the audience sprawling on the stairs and out into the street. Recently winning the favour of Alex Lee (Florence & The Machine), Ali Chant (Youth Lagoon) and John Parish (PJ Harvey), the trio joined her for ´Humdrum Drivel´ – Ali behind the desk, John on drums and Alex on guitar.
Explaining that the single was “immortalised in a surreal moment that was never imagined from the outset,“ it´s an offering that will perk the ear from the very first note. A sparse introduction of graceful beauty, it moves steadily into a tale of self-conflict before treating us to an eruption of gorgeously layered instrumentation – careful not to take-away from RHAIN´s proficient solo artistry.
“In a world of my own, I´d never have to see another soul,“ she echoes, making ´Humdrum Drivel´ a special insight into one of Bristol´s best-kept secrets. It´s only a matter of time before the secret´s out and RHAIN takes the world for her own.
