Artist description:Roving Crows are an energetic, must-see-live Irish Folk Rock act. Their latest incarnation began with 2022’s Awaken album bringing a harder edge to the sound and adding the punkier elements of the new rhythm section to Barrett and O’Neill’s Celtic inspired writing. Their music encompasses classic folk rock sounds redolent of Moving Hearts, to the multi-layered instrumentals driven by Barrett’s award-winning fiddle. “The Celtic rock quartet storm back with guns blazing for their fourth album” -Mike Davies – Folking.com – March 2022 “An album of great warmth, of lavish style, and fulsome delivery, Awaken is progressive and traditional all at once” – Ian D. Hall – Liverpool Sound & Vision – March 2022 “A band that really seems to have found itself!” -Ian Croft – RnR Magazine – Sept 22 In 2022/23 the Crows toured extensively from Montelimar in the south of France to the North-West of England. Highlights included headlining the famous Kingdom of Elfia festival in Utrecht, Netherlands; the Big Top of the boutique Devauden Festival and Folk on the Pier. They also opened the 35th Off the Tracks Festival: “Ye Gods! Roving Crows never stand still; figuratively or physically. Always new directions and re-invention. The current line-up explores some darker sounding, more socially aware territory, typified by a stunning take on ‘Business’, which vied with ‘Bury Me Naked’ as song of the set. There is a mature edge to the band these days… and it all works. But other things remain a constant – the fine musicianship (with some neat fiddle Pizzicato technique), the world-wise lyrics, and, of course, that dynamic Irish flavoured Celtic Folk vibe. A great live band. This band set the marker for others to follow…” (festivalsforall) Formed in 2009 by Barrett and O’Neill, the band have created 4 albums; ‘Bacchanalia’ 2012, ‘Deliberate Distractions’ 2013, ‘Bury Me Naked’ 2017, and ‘Awaken” in 2022. The former two releases were produced by Nick Brine (Ash, Oasis, Bruce Springsteen, Seasick Steve) at Rockfield Studios, Loz Shaw produced ‘Bury Me Naked’.
