Artist description:Having grown up in her grandparents’ village, Senny Camara moved to the Senegalese coast, driven by her passion for music. Playing music in the hotels in the area was an incredibly informative time for her, and the sensibility and emotive timbre of her voice did not go unnoticed by professional musicians who soon were seeking her out as an important component of their performances. With them she developed great versatility and enjoyed experimenting in different vocal pitches. It was then that she also began to work on her own project, in which the influences of such greats as Nina Simone, Ali Farka Touré, Wazize Diop, became evident. It wasn’t until several years later that she eventually moved to Paris. Music is for her the finest means with which to communicate: when standing on stage, her energy is palpable and transports her audience to another space and time. The guitar and the kora are her instruments of choice, and with them she unveils her roots, and invites her audience on a journey to discover her kaleidoscopic music-making.
