The Black Smock Band grew out of a series of folk nights in London in 2010. Our musical roots are from the traditions of English folk music although we combine this with a range of influences to create our unique sound. In authentic folk fashion we sing about their own lives and the social changes we are living through. As well as writing our own material we adapt traditional folk songs to explore their continuing relevance to our own times.
We´re a live band at heart, our gigs comprising songs of lost love, rabble-rousing anthems and full-tilt dance tunes that bring people to their feet. We have played some exhilarating nights at a variety of London venues, including Bethnal Green Working Men´s Club, The Jamm in Brixton and Boogaloo in Highgate. We´ve also been involved with various collaborative projects- including ´Gerrard Winstanley´s True & Righteous Mobile Incitement Unit´, a theatrical work devised with Daedalus Theatre Company which was featured in the 2018 Latitude Festival in Suffolk.
