Folk Bands and Artists
Tunng
Soho sextet Tunng have been purveying their experimental pop-folk since 2003, when they first took to the stage as a loose collective after forming in London. Over the years their sound has evolved and shifted – as their electronics man Phil explains – “the best thing about working with this band, is that we can chuck all the ingredients in, give it a good shake, and see where it lands”.
Live, the outfit has been known to employ some unconventional sound sources – a large plastic butterfly that makes cat noises, not to mention a tweeting wind-up bird complete with cage. Consequently their shows have been described as “a captivating live experience” and “like Simon and Garfunkel sharing a stage with Aphex Twin” (The Guardian).
