Gatehouse was formed in 2016 and features John Wynne (flute), John McEvoy (fiddle), Jacinta McEvoy (guitar, concertina) and Rachel Garvey (vocals). The band specialises in playing the music of Roscommon and North Connacht. They perform songs in Irish and English and feature compositions by local composers such as Josie McDermott, Turlough O´Carolan, Larry Redican and John McEvoy himself

John Wynne and John McEvoy are highly regarded musicians and old friends, who have played together for many years. They delighted audiences at Return to Camden when they last visited us to launch their CD, Pride of the West, in 2007. John Wynne is from Roscommon and has a strong interest in the music of Sligo, Roscommon and Leitrim, whilst John McEvoy, also from a Roscommon family, grew up in Birmingham. His sister is the noted flute player, Catherine McEvoy. He recorded the album Bakerswell with the group of the same name in the late 1980s. His solo CD, Returning, was released in 1998 and he recorded The Kilmore Fancy with Catherine in 2004.

John and John decided in 2016 that they would like to expand and develop the music they play, so invited John McEvoy’s wife, Jacinta, to join them on guitar and concertina, whilst Rachel Garvey, also from Roscommon and a fine singer and All-Ireland winner, came on board as vocalist. The group’s debut CD, Tús Nua, has been extremely well received.
