An ethereal folk-rock and pop band founded by Victoria and Luke Oldfield (son of Mike Oldfield), two artists whose influences contradict in a way which only highlights each element. Victoria’s classical training and love of dance music fuses with Luke’s folk and rock background to create a fresh sound of their own lauded by R2 Magazine as “trip-hop and folk-influenced ethereal pop that delightfully doesn’t fit into any existing musical pigeonhole”.

Gypsyfingers began in 2010 as the solo project of Victoria when she was living and playing music in Paris. Victoria is a classically trained pianist and vocalist but only took up the guitar for the first time in Paris. The energetic and exciting style of guitar playing at a French gipsy jam session inspired Victoria to adopt the moniker Gypsyfingers. In 2011 Victoria left Paris for London where she was introduced to Luke, who listened to her demos and offered to produce a Gypsyfingers album at his studio in Denham, Tilehouse Studios. The studio was originally built for Luke’s father Mike Oldfield and specialises in vintage recording equipment and including analogue tape machines. Luke contributed guitar and percussion parts to the recordings and the pair soon began writing and performing together in and around London as a duo, Gypsyfingers. In the studio Victoria and Luke played most instruments themselves enjoying the challenge of recording as a duo but enlisting help from Rachel Lanskey on viola and Matt Weeks on trumpet.

In 2013 as they neared completion of their debut album “Circus Life” Victoria and Luke started to look for additional band members to join Gypsyfingers for live shows. Luke had previously met Patrick Kenneally at a recording session at Toe Rag Studios, where Luke was a studio engineer on a recording session for The Ryan O’Reilly Band. Pat’s ability to play drums and keyboards at the same time made him the perfect fit for Gypsyfingers. After their first bass player relocated to Japan (without telling anyone) Gypsyfingers invited Tali Trow (ex Circulus) to join the band and they found the chemistry they were looking for. In 2014 the band supported James Blunt in Warsaw and in 2015 they spent three weeks touring Poland. Gypsyfingers are now working on the follow up to “Circus Life” as a four-piece band crossing the boundaries of folk, rock, pop and prog.

Their debut album “Circus Life” (2014) was praised by the music press for its fresh, original sound and fusion of different genres: “GypsyFingers’ sound has as its cornerstone folk music, fusing this traditional foundation with elements of Romani, spoken word, the baroque and pop. It moves swiftly along a continuum that loosely connects the late 1960’s folk pioneers Pentangle with the more modern ambition of a Beth Orton or Devendra Banhart.” (God Is In The TV)

Gypsyfingers perform live as a multi-instrumental quartet playing live shows described as “fully immersive and entertaining; seductive and beautiful in equal measure” (Mumble Music, Edinburgh Queens Hall, 1st Oct 2017). Victoria (piano, french horn, guitars, vocals) and Luke (guitars, vocals) are joined by Patrick Kenneally (drums, keys) and Tali Trow (bass) for live shows. Following fantastic shows across the UK supporting Tubular Bells for Two last year, Gypsyfingers bring their unique blend of ethereal folk-rock to venues throughout the UK in April-May 2018.
