Choro Matiz
www.facebook.com/choromatizChoro originated in Rio de Janeiro in the late 19th century, and continues to flourish today. Like much Brazilian music, it arose out of the meeting of European and African musical influences. The word ´chorar´ means ´to cry´, but the emotions of choro music range widely - from nostalgic laments to playful and exciting numbers.
The word ´matiz´ means ´shade´ or ´hue´. In the intimate duo setting of Choro Matiz, Andrew Woolf (clarinet) and Jonathan Preiss (7-string guitar) play choros old and new, exploring the variety of styles and expressions within this wonderful genre of music.
