Venue name:
Venue description:Commissioned by Oswald Stoll, the prominent theatre impresario, Hackney Empire was built by renowned architect Frank Matcham in 1901. It was one of the first theatres to have electric lights, a built-in projector box, and central heating. Now it is the only surviving purpose-built theatre in Hackney. The Grade II listed building was restored in 2004 preserving historically significant details of its façade and interior, and blending the grandeur of yesteryear with the technology of today. It’s amazing.
