Sam Lee´s Singing With Nightingales 2019

The Nest Collective presents SAM LEE´S SINGING WITH NIGHTINGALES

At woodland sites in Essex, Gloucestershire, Kent and Sussex and - using live audio links - in venues in Builth Wells, Cambridge, Canterbury, Coventry, London, Oxford Shoreham, Totnes & Stroud.

Mercury Prize nominated singer Sam Lee will be joined by wild nightingales when he and the award-winning roots music promoters The Nest Collective bring back their ground-breaking SINGING WITH NIGHTINGALES concerts to an expanded range of indoor and outdoor venues this April and May.

The new series will be hosted throughout by Sam Lee, with support from a changing cast of other top-flight performers, including jazz, world, classical, folk and contemporary singers and instrumentalists.

Locations for the under-the-stars events are being expanded to take in the RSPB reserve at Highnam Woods, near Gloucester as well as the nightingales-rich woodland sites used in previous years:  Green Farm Kent,  near Ashford and a private estate near Lewes, East Sussex. Each will offer up to 30 people maximum a campfire feast and drinks, music and stories, expert wildlife insight, a guided walk into the nightingales’ habitat and the chance to hear the magical courtship songs of the birds, including in duets with the guest musicians.

In addition, there will be a lower cost SINGING WITH NIGHTINGALES festival at the Fingringhoe Wick nature reserve in Essex on Saturday 27 April (8pm to midnight), offering campfire concerts by Sam Lee and his musical guests, promenade entertainments and starlit walks to where nightingale sing, with the option of return coach travel for Londoners and Arts Council subsidised tickets for low income earners.

This year’s series will also again take the countryside experience indoors by weaving live audio links with a noted nightingale roost into a venue-based night of music, myth, folklore and wildlife insight, hosted by Sam Lee and supported by special guest artists,  including jazz musician Pete Judge, kora master Kadialy Kouyate, multi-instrumentalist Georgia Ruth and violinist Alice Zawadzki,
