WOMAD announce final line-up

The final line-up for this year´s WOMAD Festival has been released.

In its 35th year and being held from 27th - 30th July at Charlton Park, WOMAD is an annual festival celebrating music from around the world.

Thursday´s world-music headliners are Orchestre Baobab from Senegal, West Africa’s most fabled dance band since 1970. Folk fans can catch Sheelanagig playing as part of Malmesbury School Project. It has become an annual WOMAD tradition to team pupils from nearby Malmesbury School and surrounding primaries in a project with professional musicians.

On Friday the headliners are the genre-defying Emir Kusturica and the No Smoking Orchestra, Goat with their exotic mix of trance-like grooves, hypnotic incantations and serpentine guitar lines, and Oumou Sangaré - one of the most powerful female voices in African music. Folk treats include Don Kipper and Khmer Rouge Survivors.

Saturday features Toots & the Maytals, Lamomali, Loyle Carner and Seu Jorge The Life Aquatic/Tribute to David Bowie, but don´t miss Afro Celt Sound System, performers at the 2017 Radio 2 Folk Awards.

On the closing night will be performances from world music greats such as Roy Ayers, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, Nick Mulvey, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Benjamin Zephaniah & The Revolutionary Minds. Plus folk giants Eliza Carthy & the Wayward Band.

The full day-by-day line-up, ticketing information and an official playlist are all available on the WOMAD website.
