Folk Awards 2018 - 4 Apr 2018, Belfast Waterfront

On Wednesday 4 April 2018, the cream of the folk, acoustic and roots music world unites for the Radio 2 Folk Awards, which are being held in Northern Ireland for the first time at the Belfast Waterfront.

The Folk Awards has been running for 19 years and exists to shine a spotlight on the genre.

Previous Folk Award recipients include The Chieftains, The Dubliners, Joan Baez, Yusuf Cat Stevens, Billy Bragg, Shirley Collins, Ry Cooder, Norma Waterson, Nic Jones, John Martyn and Rhiannon Giddens. The event has taken place in London, Glasgow, Salford and Cardiff.

This year, the Radio 2 Folk Awards will include performances from the likes of Paul Brady, Cara Dillon, Lankum, and Eliza Carthy & The Wayward Band.

Presented by Radio 2´s Mark Radcliffe and Scottish musician and broadcaster Julie Fowlis, the event is also graced by a host of famous folk fans who hand out the awards. In previous years, those guests have included Sir David Attenborough, Martin Freeman, Sean Bean, Ruth Jones and many more.

The event will be simulcast live on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio Ulster, and available on the Radio 2 website. TV highlights will be shown at a later date on the BBC Four channel.
