New Music: Restless - Oxbow and Moor

New Music: Restless - Oxbow and Moor

Hailing from De Pere, Wisconsin, Oxbow and Moor are an Americana/Folk duo made up of Charles Oxbow and Eames Moor. With a sound riddled with soft harmonies and intricate instrumentation, the pair have woven together their first EP, ´Restless´.

Released without price tag on January 3rd, Oxbow and Moor’s debut joint effort is a mixed bag sonically, with the title track ‘Restless’ spilling a more upbeat tone and feel, carried by a rhythmic guitar and building energy. On the opposite end of the scale, ‘Whiskey Winter’ pulls the EP back down to a sombre reflection, reminiscent of some of Glen Hansard’s solo work. The slower tracks are evidently soft and gentle, conveying mood and atmosphere well through use of both instruments and vocals, each complimenting the other.

‘Restless’ is a first peek into the potential of an emerging American duo, and as far as first impressions go it holds up. The title track is well placed at the beginning, kicking things off on a high and pulling the listener in with an easily graspable hook, before plunging into the more brooding, mellow tracks. The progression of the EP is a little slow at times, with ‘Sparrow’ clocking in at 6:26, but overall ‘Reckless’ is an enjoyable release, with some gems that shine through at many stages within the fusion of instrumentation and vocals.

Oxbow and Moor are well worth a listen, and hopefully the pair will continue to build on this release
