Patch & the Giant at Cambridge Folk Fest
Each year the organisers of the Cambridge Folk Festival select five showcase artists that they think will go onto great things in the future, to appear in the Club Tent.
A former showcase artist is included in the following year’s main bill. Previous examples include Newton Faulkner, Nick Mulvey, Seth Lakeman, Cara Dillon, Bella Hardy, Julie Fowlis, Karine Polwart & Keston Cobblers Club
This year they have picked the UK’s alt-folk troupe Patch & the Giant as one of the lucky five. With a sound built on an opulent blending of vocals with instruments including cello, flugelhorn, violin and accordion to name a few, they are sure to raise a crowd at this year’s festival.
Founded in 2011 in London, their sound is described as somewhere between Balkan and Beirut yet there is a distinct Decemberists vibe coming through too. It’s the sort of beguiling melodies that are utterly impossible not to sing, stamp and clap along too.
If you are one of the lucky ones with tickets to the Cambridge folk festival, check out this band. They are one to watch for sure.
