South Shields Folk Club was born in the early sixties as the Beacon Folk Club and met in the Beacon on the Lawe Top every Friday. Needing a bigger room, the club moved after a few years and for many years was known as the Marsden Inn Folk Club.The name was changed again after leaving the Marsden Inn, and for a few years before settling into the South Shields and Westoe Club meetings were held at the Old Ship in Harton. From the 27th of January 2013 the Club´s new home is the Customs House.
