The John Langan Band live at Jam in a Jar

The John Langan Band live at Jam in a Jar

On Monday the 17th of April, the award-winning John Langan Band gave another astonishing live performance; this time at the intimate cafe/bar Jam in a Jar in Harringay.

A celtic folk trio with Flamenco, Roma and Balkan influences and a punk rock spirit, The John Langan Band are certainly not your typical musicians. Their unique style, formidable talent and infamously manic live atmosphere has helped them make a name for themselves on the folk music scene, and after their performance Monday night, it’s obvious what all the fuss is about.

The band’s set comprised of songs from their critically acclaimed album Bones of Contention, but they also took requests for songs in foreign languages, and treated the crowd to a thoroughly enjoyable cover of the deliciously filthy Formidable Marinade; giving it a lively Langan Band makeover that was better than the original.

Their energy and enthusiasm is infectious, and their skill with their instruments is deeply impressive. John Langan ´guitar, vocals´, Alastair Caplin ´violin´ and Dave Tunstall ´double-bass´ played to a crowd that began the night sitting politely at their tables or on the hardwood floor of Jam in a Jar. However, in only a few short songs, they had been whipped into a frenzy. If you’re looking for a band to get you on your feet, The Langan Band will do you one better; they’ll get you out of your mind.
