Chris Cleverley - releases and tour
UK Dream-Folk artist Chris Cleverley announces the release of his highly anticipated 4th album, accompanied by new single and tour dates
“Impressive” - The Telegraph
“Haunting” - The Sunday Times
“Genuinely important” - RnR Magazine
Chris Cleverley´s new album, entitled ´Broadcast The Secret Verse´, is scheduled for release on Friday 4th November, followed by a month-long UK-wide tour with both solo and band dates.
Three Counties-based Cleverley is among a new wave of pioneering artists carving an uncharted path through the UK acoustic landscape. Endorsements from The Times, The Telegraph and BBC Radio have led to his receipt of FATEA Magazine´s ´Male Artist of the Year´ Award. His new album - and first new music in over two years - ushers in the emergence of a groundbreaking new sound and bold stylistic departure from his previous work.
Under the helm of master producer John Elliott (The Little Unsaid/Reveal Records), the album’s vibrant, uplifting feel creates immediate associations with the Lo-Fi Indie greats Sufjan Stevens, Phoebe Bridgers, Elliott Smith and Anais Mitchell. While maintaining his characteristically impressive fingerstyle guitar work, new arrangements draw heavily on wider influences from ambient, electronic and alternative music, with electric guitars, synths and programming pushing the boundaries of 21st Century acoustic-led music. Fans of Cleverley´s direct, visceral lyrical style will be drawn further in by his continued exploration of the themes that matter to us all, with diverse subjects including pervasive artificial intelligence, charter cities, climate emergency and the journeys of displaced people.
Today Friday 26th August Cleverley shares an early glimpse of his vibrant new direction, through release of the album´s first single ´Chlorophyll´. This hard hitting track presents a stark reminder of the impact of global warming on our fragile natural world, as Cleverley’s whispering vocal and intricate guitar work interweave with the lush textural harmonies of guest vocalist Lucy Farrell (The Furrow Collective).
Keep an eye out for two more single releases between now and November, while saving the dates for Cleverley´s album release tour, including rare performances with an all-star full band line up featuring John Elliott (The Little Unsaid), John Parker (Nizlopi), Graham Coe (Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys) and Kathy Pilkinton (Said The Maiden):
