EFDSS

Whilst our listings are on-hold and everyone´s staying home we have decided to run articles featuring some of the venues, bands and promoters who have been with us since the beginning. These are people and organisations who have hosted many great folk events over the years, and we look forward to many more of their events in the future.

Our third feature is:

EFDSS

The English Folk Dance and Song Society hardly needs any introduction - they are the national folk arts development organisation for England with around 3000 members worldwide. They champion the English traditional arts - music, song, dance, storytelling, customs and traditions - as part of the rich and diverse cultural landscape of the UK. They are also a Registered Charity, with regular funding from Arts Council England as a National Portfolio Organisation.

EFDSS was was founded in 1932 to preserve, promote and develop the English folk arts, and specifically song, tune and dance. The organisation was created by the merger of the Folk-Song Society (founded 1898) and the English Folk Dance Society (founded 1911).

They currently deliver programmes of learning and participation and artists´ development through their arts venue Cecil Sharp House, the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library and archive, and at a range of venues across England and sometimes beyond. They frequently work in partnership with arts, education and heritage organisations.
