Gealach Gorm Theatre

The Gealach Gorm Theatre was developed within Kill Community Centre in 2005. The project involved completely refurbishing a disused squash court – fitting it with raked seating a stage and lighting resulting in a fully fitted modern studio theatre. The theatre opened in December 2005 and in February 2006 the first drama was staged there. This was an adaptation of local postman / poet Tom Power’s poem “Conversations in a Country Pub”. Since then a wide variety of performances have been staged including plays, pantomimes, music nights and variety nights.
We were delighted when in 2009 our efforts were rewarded with The Arts & Culture Award from the then County Community Forum. In 2012 we held the inaugural Gealach Gorm Singer Songwriter Festival – a festival of original music. With support from Waterford Council we have been able to bring artists like Mundy, Mark Geary, Karen Casey, John Spillane and many other original music artists from the UK and the US
The theatre caters for the youth of our community with drama classes running for around 20 weeks during the Winter months. Over 50 children avail of these classes each year learning stage craft in a real live theatre facility
The intimate atmosphere of the theatre and the superb acoustics make this venue a dream to perform in for all artists and artforms. We are delighted that we are now able to attract some touring professional theatre shows including Mikel Murfi with his acclaimed one man show ‘The Man In The Woman’s Shoes’ and most recently Seamus O’Rouke with his show ‘Padraig Potts Guide to Walking”
