The Sorries

Edinburgh
For nearly two decades, The Sorries have been a feature of the Scottish folk scene, breathing new life into centuries-old songs with their signature harmonies, fresh arrangements and engaging storytelling.
Formed by Douglas Kay and Martin Philip in late 2006, their career has seen them grace stages both grand and intimate, from Dunfermline’s Carnegie Hall and Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium to the Thomas Paine Chapel in East Sussex. The duo’s annual Edinburgh Festival Fringe shows have earned multiple 5-star reviews and seen them featured on BBC Radio and The Scotsman Festival Show.
The global appeal of The Sorries is evident in the multi-national make-up of their Fringe audiences and from worldwide streaming figures in the hundreds of thousands, and this international interest was affirmed in 2019 when they headlined Moscow’s sold-out Samhain Festival.
Their 7th album, “I Will Work”, was released in 2024 and saw the pair continue their studio development with an expanding palette of sounds and a brace of original songs.
Beyond the concert sphere, The Sorries strive to educate and inspire with performances and talks in schools and through their podcast - The Scottish Song Guide - which explores the origins of the songs they champion.
