London
Cellar Upstairs folk club: John Hegley

NB: This gig is not at our usual venue, and the guest has changed. Entertaining performance poet John Hegley replaces the original booked guest, Ken Wilson, who is unwell, and tonight the club will meet at the King & Queen, 1 Foley Street, W1W 6DL.
John Hegley returns to his native borough, Islington (from his home in neighbouring Hackney), to sing songs of his family´s history, particularly of a French Folies Bergère grandmother who spent the 1920s on stage in the US and was brought to John´s childhood home by a mysterious figure from that continent. He has had three series on Radio 4, been the poet in residence for BBC Online and Keats House, performed all over the country, including at the Edinburgh Fringe, and produced twelve books and one mug. His last visit to the Cellar Upstairs was a great success. John will also bring along Diego Brown and the Good Fairy, who will do a couple of songs; http://www.johnhegley.co.uk
The Cellar is London’s longest-running folk club; it’s a weekly, non-profit club, run on a voluntary basis, now meeting on Monday nights. We have professional guests every week, supported by resident singers and musicians, and performers from the floor.
