Folk Bands and Artists
Hannah James and Toby Kuhn

They are a unique duo combining the talents of Hannah who is an accordion playing singer-songwriter and and percussive dance champion and Toby Kuhn is a French post-classical cellist and kalimba player with a taste for improvisation and folk music of all persuasions.
Hannah is one of folk´s outstanding talents. A wonderful dancer ( I remember a magical international dance show she directed at Shrewsbury Folk Festival a few years ago) who combined music and dance and song in her one woman Jigdoll show, and a distinctive singer who makes up one third of the great Lady Maisery, she is also an eloquent song writer whose songs clearly flow from her knowledge of the tradition.
Toby was initially a classical player; on graduating in Montreal in 2011 he decided to move on from classical music. He founded the acoustic duo Mad Kats, and has gone on in other bands Wild Strings Trio and Zamee to experiment with the fusing of Balkan tunes and songs with other styles. He is also in a string quintet with fiddler and singer Kate Young, with whom he is performing around Europe. Toby lives and works in the musical crossroads that is Ljubljana, Slovenia.
