Erawan is the project of London based Hattie Marsh. The past years have seen her play over a hundred shows, from small local grassroot pubs to big capacity venues like Shepherd’s Bush Empire and festivals like Glastonbury and Meltdown, where she was personally booked to perform by The Cure ́s frontman Robert Smith. She is also a regular act at Sofar Sounds and has played around the UK and Europe as well as in her native Thailand. When her father left her at the age of seven, Erawan not only kept his guitar which would become her second voice over the years, but also kept him as a recurring figure in her songs, joined by other people she has met during the last years.
In her music, she re-enacts her relationships with these characters, especially when she is on stage. People in the audience have described her performances as “painting with her voice” and “theatrical”, where she half sings and half talks to tell a story. It is a form of communication for when words alone fail - while she has often felt that trauma are preventing her from being heard when she is talking, she resorts to writing intimate and honest songs as a compensation.
The artist’s name ‘Erawan’ is the Thai name of the three headed elephant which represents the three major gods in Hindu mythology: Brahma the creator, Vishnu the keeper and Mahesh the destroyer. Growing from Hattie Marsh into Erawan means also accepting that the three gods, the creator, keeper and destroyer, are part of her as an artist. Erawan’s debut ‘Speak’ came out in July 2020, produced by Danny Allin (Laura Mvula, Labrynth, Emeli Sandé) ‘White Noise ́ on the 30th of September and followed by ‘Touch Me’’ on the 24th March 2021. All these songs have been played repeatedly on BBC Introducing Norfolk, where she was also invited for an interview with Kitty Perrin.
