Fuzzy Jones

“Fuzzy’s voice is like something you heard in a dream, truly original.” Corinne Bailey Rae
Fuzzy Jones is an award winning singer-songwriter and the queen of Junk Shop Folk, based in Leeds UK. She conjures up vivid urban tales of the everyday and her lyrics draw you in around melamine tables, of kitsch faded orange cafes. Fuzzy is emerging this year as a new and unique alt-folk, chamber pop, junk shop folk artist. It has been said that “the sweetness of her voice brings some peace of mind and her bunch of witty songs, about wrecked relationships are softly sharp, softly accurate, and simply classy.” One young person recently described her music as “a pillow my soul would like to hug.” Miss Jones herself likes to describe her music as “a tea party with Joni Mitchell and David Bowie, where Burt Bacharach occasionally pops by for a coffee,” and she has cited influence from 1960s and 70s musicians, such as Bobbie Gentry, Grace Slick, Julie Driscoll, David Bowie, Serge Gainsbourg, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Nancy Priddy, Jimmy Webb, Scott Walker and Dusty Springfield, and Jazz greats like Billie Holiday, all the way to chamber pop and alt-folk artists of now, like Dawn Landes, St Vincent, My Brightest Diamond, Patrick Watson and Father John Misty.
She is often accompanied onstage by Jonny Flockton; a very handy guitarist and Handmade Fletch; a vivacious bass man, who have both helped shaped her songs into beautiful arrangements. This year she has released her EP Junk Shop Folk, which has been lovingly and humbly crafted in Handmade Fletch’s kitchen; with the help of some pots and pans. You can now download or order a copy of the EP from Fuzzy’s STORE. It is a little apéritif to her debut album, which the band will record through the Summer, in the beautiful radio theatre at Chapel FM in Leeds.
Fuzzy’s music has been played on Stuart Maconie’s ‘Freak Zone’ BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Leeds, York, Manchester & Lincolnshire, BBC Introducing, Chapel FM and many other online shows.
Her awards include ‘Best Song’ at London Screenwriters’ Festival in February 2014, for her song ‘Swans’ (co-written by Neil Innes) which was featured in the first crowdsourced feature film, ’50 Kisses’. She was also a semi-finalist in the UK Songwriting Competition 2013.
She currently gigs all over the country and beyond – gracing the stages of Leeds Pride, Green Man Festival, Underneath the Stars, Howard Assembly Rooms and many, many more.
