Songwriter Graham, the frontman of pub-rockers the Escape Committee, returns to his folk club roots for a rare solo gig with songs about life, beer, football and maybe even soft fruit, plus the odd rewrite and cover version thrown in. Expect the unexpected! www.theescapecommittee.info. Veteran singer John came from a family in which everyone sang, mainly Irish and music hall songs. Later, he was influenced by the music of the skiffle era and the trad jazz revival in the 1950s, and buying blues 78s in Dobell’s Jazz Shop was a highlight. As a child, he saw a few of the remaining music hall performers at the Finsbury Park Empire, and in ’57/58 he went to two Big Bill Broonzy concerts. These days his repertoire consist mainly of traditional, music hall and comic songs.
