Rosie Brown

“Superior musical minds following their hearts,” said Mojo in its glittering review of the debut album By the Blue. And with an exquisite, deeply-textured acoustic sound, songstress Rosie Brown – working closely with co-writer and producer Bernd Rest and her longstanding, virtuoso band – has continued charming audiences on the UK’s acoustic scene.
With Rosie Brown on vocals and guitar, the band are:
Bernd Rest – electric, acoustic and lap steel guitars and harmony vocals;
Simon C Russell – double and electric bass, viola and harmony vocals;
Paul May – drums; Robin Hopcraft – trumpet and flugelhorn.
With a heady mix of jazz, folk and country influences, they create an inimitable harmony-drenched sound. Expect songs from their critically acclaimed albums (By the Blue, Clocks and Clouds, Strange Recollection) as well as new material from their forthcoming album.
**** Mojo
“As fresh and enveloping as morning mist – and as disquietingly opaque – the music of Rosie Brown weaves a wondrous spell… and the effect is bewitching. She is partnered by producer and co-writer Bernd Rest, whose neat guitar parts (along with Russell’s double bass, and the general air of trippiness) recall vintage John Martyn. But the post-Norah subtlety (acoustic group at its core), post-Portishead portent (neurotic bluesy dissonance) and post-Zero 7 lounge-chill results in uniquely affecting sounds which unsettle as they seduce.”
**** Q
“Elemental, sensual… conjures something evocative of Les Paul backed by Goldfrapp.”
