Formed by the internationally regarded saxophonist Tommy Smith in 1995, the SNJO has earned a worldwide reputation for creating top quality jazz, on record and in concert. Tributes have been paid to Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Charles Mingus, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk and many other jazz giants. The orchestra has also facilitated new work including pieces by Bobby Wellins, Keith Tippett and Tommy Smith and has wecomed guests including Gary Burton, Randy Brecker, Joe Lovano and Peter Erskine.
