There´s an old saying “necessity is the mother of invention,“ and Stone Foundation were certainly born out of a necessity. Two men searching for a new challenge and an outlet to further their creative vision. Thankfully, their worlds collided and an enduring friendship and musical bond was instantly forged.

The two Neils (Sheasby & Jones) would have to be patient before hitting on the right chemistry for their new musical escapades. Such ambitious plans simply couldn´t be hatched overnight. The right combination of musicians needed to be assembled to make Stone Foundation a reality.

That took time and time they had. After a few false starts the right team finally emerged. The pair always knew it was going to be heavily armed with horns and Hammond, and a new soul vision started to come to fruition with the arrival of keys player Ian Arnold and drummer Philip Ford. The permanent addition of Rob Newton on conga and percussion completed the rhythm section that drives the band.

Change is of the essence with Stone Foundation; the intention has always been musical development. To this end they have constantly transformed the line-up and employed numerous guest musicians. Recent gigs have seen a few personnel changes in the brass section, no doubt more change awaits.

The key to the band making it´s mark was an obvious route, through gigging and gigging solidly too, slowly but surely cementing a formidable live reputation and finding their own ever-increasing audience. Without any backing or promotion, Stone Foundation have become the word-of-mouth band of their times.
