Anandi Bhattacharya

Anandi Bhattacharya

Anandi Bhattacharya is a singer who released her debut album Joys Abound last year. Its accomplishment and inventiveness has impressed everyone who’s heard it.

For many concerts she is accompanied by her father Debashish Bhattacharya on slide guitar.

Anandi is the nickname of Sukanya Bhattacharya, born in Kolkata, who started singing aged three. Alongside her father and other great Indian musicians, Anandi sites influences as diverse as Thom Yorke, Ella Fitzgerald and Joni Mitchell. Debashish’s smallest type of guitar is named after her. Does she mind sharing her name with one of Debashish’s guitars? ‘Do I mind? Absolutely not and what better way than music to find a purpose in this world? I think music is equivalent to oxygen when it comes to surviving and I am truly blessed to be engaged in music constantly.’
