Festival Preview: Green Man Festival

Festival Preview: Green Man Festival

Green Man Festival returns this year to the breath-taking Brecon Beacons in Wales for a long weekend of joyous adventures, great company and exceptionally wonderful music.

Now in its 14th year, the festival prides itself on its ethical approach and offers festivalgoers an unforgettable weekend of live music and adventure in the heart of the Welsh countryside.

Taking place between the 18th-21st August 2016, this year will see the wonderful Laura Marling headlining on Saturday night alongside electronic musician and producer James Blake, who will be bringing his mellow beats and a wondrously unique voice to the headline slot on the Mountain Stage on the Friday. Giants of the British independent music scene, Glaswegian band Belle and Sebastian will close the festival on Sunday night with their own brand of sprightly indie-pop and are definitely not to be missed. Other notable artists appearing at the festival include the New-Zealand troubadour Connan Mockasin in a rare UK appearance, who will be taking the Mountain Stage audience on an unforgettable adventure with his unique phantasmagorical psych-pop. Malian band Songhoy Blues will return to the festival for the second year in a row and will bring the whole festival to their feet dancing along to the band’s upbeat desert blues. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Julia Holter, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Cate Le Bon, Slow Club, Kiran Leonard and Amber Arcades are also high on the list of must-see acts appearing this year and we cannot wait to discover our new favourite musicians in addition to these on our adventures around the festival site.

With a music line-up as tastily jam-packed as this, anyone would be forgiven for not delving into one of the many other areas that Green Man Festival offers to its community of festivalgoers every year. For those that dare to venture beyond the main music stages (and we would implore you to!), there is treasure to be found. The Babbling Tongues stage will be offering up a feast of talks and interviews, including one with Sunday’s headliners Belle and Sebastian. Jon Savage will be sharing his experiences of the punk subculture, and hosts Pete Paphides and Bob Stanley return again for another round of the annual Pop Quiz for those wanting to put their knowledge to the test! This year’s crowd are in for a real treat as the new ‘Back of Beyond’ performance arts area is unveiled for the first time at Green Man. Circus arts, dance, theatre and puppetry abound – this new addition to the festival map offers an exciting alternative to the hustle-and-bustle of the main stages. Not to be missed is the National Dance Company Wales, performing for the first time at the festival and bringing their quirky theatrical dance piece ‘Animatorium’ to the secluded stage, nestled behind the Walled Garden by the woods.

Green Man Festival is sure to satisfy both the adventurous individual wanting to get the most out of their weekend, and those wanting a mellower weekend of songs by the all-night bonfire, taking in the sights of the magnificent Brecon Beacons.

Green Man Festival takes place from the 18th-21st August 2016. For more information and to see the full line-up, please visit http://www.greenman.net/.
