Single Review - Odia: ‘Eternity’

Single Review - Odia: ‘Eternity’

Eternity is the latest release from folk/electronica fusion act Odia

This new single combines the timeless, wistful tones of traditional whistle and fiddle with the infectious grooves of contemporary electronic beats. Underpinned by rich string harmonies, Mike Pont’s ethereal whistle melodies soar above the pulsating beat, evoking images of a serene yet wild landscape.

Odia was born during Lockdown, as an online project for Stuart Spence to explore collaboration and embark on new adventures in music from around the world. Odia released their first EP ‘Home’ in 2020 and seem to be going from strength to strength with recent appearances at the prestigious Celtic Connections festival on the Danny Kyle Open Stage. Odia are also working towards recording a new album as well as performing some live shows featuring the Eternity collaborators Amy Lewis and Elizabeth Davidson-Blythe on fiddle and the aforementioned whistle player Mike Pont on whistle.

Eternity is as soothing as it is danceable. The folk-inspired melodies are dreamlike whilst the consistent rhythmic groove invites the listener into a hypnotic dance. The breakdown in the second half of the song brings to the fore the impressive ornamentation and nuance of the whistle playing and the groove has all the more impact when it drops back in.

Overall, Eternity is a sensitive blend of celtic folk and electronica with thoughtful depth to the many sonic layers of the track.
