Tribute to Tommy Maguire - Friday 18th July, London Irish Centre

A celebration of the life and legacy of Tommy Maguire — teacher, player, and pioneer of Irish traditional music in London.
Tommy Maguire’s influence on Irish music in London runs deep. A gifted button accordionist, céilí drummer, whistler, lilter and teacher, he was the first to deliver formal traditional Irish music classes in the city in the late 1960s. Generations of Irish children—many now musicians and teachers themselves—got their start under his gentle guidance in classes at the London Irish Centre and St Jude’s Social Club.
This July, IMDL (Irish Music and Dance in London) presents a special tribute concert honouring Tommy’s legacy. The evening will feature performances from some of his earliest students, including Mary and Mick Linane, Karen Ryan, Tom and John Morrow, and members of The Auld Triangle and North London Céilí Bands. IMDL’s youth group The Trad Gathering will also perform tunes from Tommy’s repertoire, keeping his music alive through the next generation.
