Thetford Folk Club

From the memory of Roger Gamble, original Folk Club organiser:
“It was early 70s, I was part of the band Charabanc, we gigged all over; from Lincoln down to Romford, and used the Green Dragon for rehearsals as two members were Cambridge-based and two from Norwich. We decided to start a club as people had begun coming to the pub to hear us anyway. It turned out to be very successful, we booked national name guests and yes, produced our own vinyl album of guest artists and residents The Molecatcher, which I still have a copy of somewhere. When other commitments forced Charabanc to disband in the mid70s, we handed the club over to a local group, John Lord and a couple of others. I think it kept going for several years after that but lost contact.“
After three decades without a Folk Club in Thetford, a few musicians who had been involved in the local Open Mic scene are now proud to present the very best in Folk, roots and acoustic music at the monthly music nights based at the wonderful Carnegie Room, right in the middle of this historic town. The format is two booked guest acts with floor spot support from local musicians.
