The five names in this band read like a nominations list for an Irish traditional music hall of fame; Dónal Lunny (Bothy Band, Planxty, Moving Hearts, LAPD, Mozaik), Andy Irvine (Sweeney’s Men, Planxty, LAPD, Patrick Street, Mozaik), Paddy Glackin (Bothy Band, LAPD), Michael McGoldrick (Lunasa, Capercaillie) and John Doyle (Solas).
Dónal Lunny, Andy Irvine and Paddy Glackin link the band’s heritage back to the glory days of Planxty and The Bothy Band while two of today’s leading heirs to these pioneers – signature guitarist John Doyle and virtuoso flautist Mike McGoldrick – bring their experience of Celtic and other international roots styles to the mix.
Each is a talented soloist in their own right, but in this new band they offer a blend of old and young and of vocal and instrumental talents that results in exceptional music.
