Calum Baird - A Part of This Land

Folk and punk singer-songwriter Calum Baird realeased his new single ´A Part of This Land´ on May 2nd. Building on his previous work, which centres on a politically driven folk sound and lyrical activism, Calum has taken a step into a more personal side as he explores his relationship with Falkirk, the town he calls home.

While the new single still holds the masterful storytelling which Calum is known for, the new single dives into the personal side of this storytelling, which often depicts protest, but rather this time around the focus is on the triad of the landscapes, community and his emotional ties to his home town.

"Falkirk is a place that´s grown on me in ways you wouldn´t expect a town to," says Calum. "It´s not just the streets or landmarks – it´s the people, the small moments, the way it changes but still feels familiar. This song is about the connection you develop with a place you´ve grown with, even if you didn´t start there."

The new single was recorded in Germany at Blue Lizard studio and produced by the award-winning German musician Tobias Thiele. Since the two began collaborating in 2021, the pair have developed a creative partnership that has resulted in the production of the singles ´Between the Worlds´ and ´Something New This Way Comes´, earning support across BBC Radio Scotland, Amazing Radio UK, and Amazing Radio USA.

Following the release of this new single, Calum is set to embark on his May Day Spring Tour 2025, which includes a mix of solo shows and festival appearances – featuring performances at With Banners Held High, Katie’s Fest, and the major UK festival Bearded Theory, where he’ll share the stage with a stellar lineup that includes Iggy Pop, Manic Street Preachers, Paul Heaton, The Mary Wallopers, Ash, and more.

"Bearded Theory´s a big one – it´s one of the UK´s best alternative festivals and I´m proud to be one of only a few Scottish acts on the lineup this year," Calum says. "I can´t wait to bring this new music to people live."
